New year, healthy mouth: 7 new year's resolutions for good oral health

With the new year, we try to keep the resolutions we made before the bells chimed. At Pierrot we would like to suggest a series of resolutions related to your oral health. By following these simple guidelines we will improve our dental health and avoid the odd unpleasant surprise this year. We promise you will not want to give them up after a fortnight, as happens with other resolutions…

  1. Brush your teeth after every meal : obvious as it may seem, we sometimes fail to keep an adequate daily brushing routine. For proper oral hygiene we should brush our teeth after every meal (or at least twice a day). If you tend to forget at work, one of our dental kits will surely make this first resolution much easier to keep.
  2. Use dental floss : from now on, let dental floss be your essential ally. The right thing is to use it every time we brush our teeth but, if not, at least once a day. Choose your floss. Think of your smile!
  3. Replace your toothbrush : as we mentioned in another article on our blog, it is recommended to change your toothbrush every 3 months, because — even if we cannot see it — it deteriorates and loses effectiveness. It is also important to change it whenever we have been ill. If you have spent Christmas with a cold… do not hesitate to change your toothbrush as soon as possible!
  4. Avoid tobacco: smoking damages the mouth in many ways: it discolours teeth, encourages cavities and receding gums, and causes throat, lung and mouth cancer. Smokers are twice as likely to lose their teeth as non-smokers. If you smoke, think no more and quit the habit!
  5. Keep a healthy, balanced diet: good nutrition is very important for maintaining good oral health. A small tip: cut down on the sugar you eat, your teeth will thank you.
  6. Drink more water. Drinking water is good not only for general health but for dental health too. Staying hydrated helps fight dental plaque.
  7. Visit the dentist: it is essential to go to the dentist once or twice a year to prevent any dental health problem before it causes discomfort or requires more complex or expensive treatment. Professional help is one of the most important preventive measures for keeping teeth and gums healthy.

Keeping these 7 resolutions is easy and will mean you will not want to stop showing off an enviable smile.
