Do you usually clean your tongue after brushing your teeth? If the answer is yes, well done! If, on the other hand, it is no, you should know that you are allowing debris to build up in your mouth, which will lead to bacteria developing and to halitosis or bad breath, as well as encouraging oral problems such as cavities or gingivitis.
It is true that when we clean our teeth we sometimes pay no attention to our tongue, but we should. A white tongue is a sign of dirt but, in favour of this cleaning, it also means that the sense of taste is not working properly. It is never too late to improve our daily hygiene routine.
To clean your tongue properly you only need to follow these steps:
- Choose what you are going to clean your tongue with: either the back of your toothbrush (several brushes have a special textured area for this task) or a tongue cleaner .
- Stick out your tongue so you can reach as much of it as possible and avoid gagging.
- Brush your tongue repeatedly from the back to the front. As you will see debris building up on the tool you are using, rinse it and carry on.
- To complete the cleaning of your mouth, rinse! Mouthwash will help get rid of any loose debris left and freshen your breath.
Now that you know the benefits of cleaning your tongue, and how to do it, do not wait any longer! After all, it only takes a few minutes a day and… it is for your health!
